Conference Time Again

We had Parent-Teacher Conference again yesterday at the boys' school. The report on Trevan was mostly great! I say mostly because academically he is doing wonderful. He is in the top reading, and math groups. So no more telling us he can't read! (He tries to pull that one off daily) He is just such a social child that he is struggling with keeping his lips together. He has found that being the "funny" kid gets him lots of attention from the other kids and he really enjoys that. We are working on having him learn when and where it is ok to be the clown. A funny little side story about Trevan: Trevan is really into girls, he thinks he NEEDS to have many different girl friends now so that he can make the best choice of which one to marry. I am getting used to getting weekly reports on his recent "loves" (yes, that is what he calls the girls) So on Sunday afternoon he and I were sitting on the couch and he was looking pretty sad, so I asked him what was wrong.
Trevan-"Mom, why are no girls attracted to me?"
Me-"Oh Trevan you really don't need to be worrying about that, just wait until you are 16 yrs old, then all the girls will be knocking down our door to get to you because you are so handsome."
Trevan-"Does that mean I can get married when I am 16?"
Me-"NO!"
Trevan-"How old do I have to be then?"
Me-"At least 25, and graduated from college."
Trevan-(disgusted)"Mom, I already graduated from college! I was in your tummy at the time and it still counts!!!!!"
He cracks me up. I am happy that he is doing well in school, now I know for sure that he just doesn't like to read to us!
Report on Mason---Also doing great. (A moment to talk highly of him, not bragging) Mason has always scored well academically. He scores well above the national average, and the school district here is above that and he scores well above that level also. He has also been grade levels ahead of the current grade he is in (if that makes sense) So during this conference we were told to have him tested for the Gifted Program. Now, back in first grade, in Germany, with the teacher that neither he or I cared for, he was placed in their Talented and Gifted program without my knowledge. So, I just figured it was because the teacher didn't really want to deal with him and found a way for him to be out of her class for an hour or more daily. (Those of you who really know Mason understand he can be a handful) I guess I was wrong there. I don't really know what is involved in the testing process and their Gifted teacher won't be in the school for another month or so, so it won't happen for a little while but it will happen. Funny story about Mason-----Mason is ADHD, but just ADD not hyper, anyways we had to change his medicine about a month ago because in a 3 month time period he lost close to 8 pounds. Anyways, we changed him to a dose that wears off after 4-5 hours (that way he will eat at night). I told him that he really needed to pay attention to how this affects him and that if he finds himself getting lost in his thoughts he needs to speak up so we can help him out. Well Mason is a very literal thinker, meaning that if you warn him of something happening, he believes it will happen. So yesterday at school in the afternoon his class was doing some kind of assignment, the teacher told the kids they had like 5 minutes left to get it finished. Well Mason went up to her and whispered "I have been daydreaming for 18 minutes now and I didn't finish it" We laugh because if he knows how long it has been he is just not doing the work, not daydreaming! But, since I told him to watch out for it he thinks it happens! There is no maybe for him, it either is or is not. So today I told a white lie, I told him that I called the Dr. about his daydreaming and she said that it would not happen anymore because the medicine has been in his system long enough to take care of it! Nice one Mom!

Carter is into girls too. On Valentines' Day he got kissed by a 4 year old that is deeply in love with him. Carter has informed that at school he has 4 girlfriends. Wow!! Katrina on the other hand has a boy that wants to "date her" the new thing to say now, but she is not interested. She is only interested in making good grades. I couldn ot be prouder. I just told her to tell the boy that she is not allowed to date until she is 16. She said she can't stand it that he likes her. She ask, why do boys like me? I say it's because your pretty and sweet. If only she knew what she what the future has in store. Right now I will just enjoy her not liking boys because I know when she hits pubertyit will and her she will be asking, why don't boys like me? I'm not sure I am ready for that. I tell her it's okay for boys to like her and it's okay for her to like them. When I was her age, goodness I was a boy crazy fool. My poor mother.
Well it sounds great that Mason is doing so well.
